Fire at Former Muncie Piano Factory was Arson

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) _ Muncie firefighters say a fire at an old warehouse that formerly served as a piano factory was intentionally set.

Chief investigator Rob Mead of the Muncie Fire Department say an investigation has eliminated accidental sources for the fire Saturday that burned out of control for hours and produced smoke visible for miles.

Mead tells The Star Press for a story Tuesday that the building had no utilities when the fire began and “all other possibilities of an accidental source were eliminated at the scene.''

The fire the 19th century brick and heavy timber warehouse was reported at 6:43 a.m. and firefighters say they weren't able to bring it under control for more than three hours.

A neighbor reported hearing explosions inside the building.
