FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne firefighter accused of stalking a woman, and sending her lewd text messages, has been suspended without pay.

The City’s Fire Merit Commission made that decision with a unanimous vote Tuesday. Police say Michael Moring sent the victim vulgar messages, including photos of his genitals, for nearly a year before police tracked him down.

Fire Chief Eric Lahey wouldn’t talk to our Partners in News at ABC 21 about the case, but is quick to defend the rest of the city’s firefighters:

“I think the public knows our people are good people,” Lahey said. “The Fort Wayne firefighters are out there every day, serving the public, doing the best job they can, they’re highly trained, highly motivated firefighters.”

Moring could end up reinstated if charges are dropped or if he’s found not guilty.
