Five Arrested in Credit Union Sting Operation

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Five Fort Wayne residents appeared in court Monday for an attempted armed burglary of Via Credit Union in Marion, that according to The Journal Gazette.

On Thursday, police witnessed the group acting suspiciously around the credit union, so the next day, officials set up a sting operation at the business. The lights were on and the open sign was up at Via Credit Union when the group returned around 10 a.m. Friday, but no employees were in the building. The group then tried to flee the scene when they realized the doors were locked, but they were caught by police.

Officers found zip ties, masks, and a gun in the group's vehicle.

18-year-old Christian Smith, 19-year-old Tyler McCarthy, 37-year-old Freddie Church Jr., 21-year-old Shaiki Sutton, and Autumn Carter all face a charge stemming from the case, and remain held in the Allen County Jail.
