Fort Wayne Council Denies Health Group’s Fund Request

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A request from Parkview Health for money to build a research center in Fort Wayne fell short at Tuesday night's City Council meeting.

It got five votes, but the request to use $1-million from the city's Legacy Fund to build a Life Science Education and Research center needed six votes to pass. Two council members voted against it, and one member was absent at last night's meeting.

The Journal Gazette reports that Parkview planned on teaming up with Trine and Huntington Universities to build the facility on their Randallia campus, while the schools would create doctoral programs in related fields. One council member told the newspaper that if the proposal had included some form of reimbursement to the Fund, it might have passed.
