Fort Wayne man dies inside house fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A 65-year-old man died Monday after his house caught on fire.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office said Joseph I. Thomas of Fort Wayne died from smoke inhalation and thermal burns. The manner of death was ruled an accident.

Around 2:30 p.m. Monday, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a home in the 6900 block of Penrose Drive on reports of a fire.

A fire was located in the home’s crawlspace, which resulted in a collapse of the floor.

Crews extinguished the fire after about 50 minutes and later found Thomas’ body. The fire is still under investigation.
