FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – The trial for a Fort Wayne man accused of killing three people, including an unborn child, will begin Tuesday in Allen Superior Court.

Deyante Antuan Stephens, 27, was arrested in January of 2018 for shooting and killing Preonda Jones, 37, and Brianna Gould, 24. Gould was pregnant at the time of her death, and the unborn fetus was of a viable age, if born.

The Journal Gazette reports Stephens was arrested after police found him “trying to get into an apartment” at another location. He was bleeding from his hand, and had blood on his clothing.

Stephens is charged with three counts of murder, with each charge carrying a penalty of up to 65 years in prison. If convicted on all counts, Stephens could face 195 years behind bars.

Prosecutors have filed an enhancement for using a gun to commit the crime, which could lead to an additional 20 years.

The trial is expected to last three days.
