Fort Wayne woman beaten to death, man in custody

*UPDATE at 10:30am: The woman has died at an area hospital. The man found at the home, 34-year-old Jason Steiss, has been given a preliminary charge of domestic battery. The original story continues below.*

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A woman is fighting for her life after being assaulted at a Fort Wayne home.

The Fort Wayne Police Department tells WOWO News officers were called to a home at 2800 Stanford Avenue, northwest of Gren Park, at 1am on a report of battery. When they arrived they found the woman unconscious inside the home.

Officers immediately began CPR and first aid until relieved by paramedics. She was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

A man who was inside the home has been detained and is being questioned. Police aren’t saying yet what his relationship to the victim is.

Crime scene technicians are processing the scene, searching for and collecting any evidence. Investigators will be going door to door attempting to find any witnesses or anyone that has any information. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact police.
