Gary Slaying Suspect Surrenders after Release

GARY, Ind. (AP) _ A Gary slaying suspect who walked free from an Illinois hospital has turned himself in. 
 
Gary police say 21-year-old Mark Cherry of Lake Station was accompanied by an attorney when he turned himself in Monday morning at the Lake County Jail in Crown Point.
 
The Munster Times reports Cherry faces charges of murder, attempted murder, attempted robbery, criminal confinement and battery with a deadly weapon. 
 
He's accused of taking part in a Dec. 1 home invasion in Gary in which 22-year-Rolando Correa of Gary was fatally shot.
 
<span style=”font-size: 18px;”>Police say Cherry suffered a gunshot wound in the incident and was hospitalized at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Gary police didn't post an officer outside his room, and Cherry went free when he was discharged in late February.
