BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP): A nonprofit group plans to pay for processing venison for low-income families following an upcoming deer hunt in the Bloomington area.

Ian Munnoch tells the Herald-Times that Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry will use $7,000 in grant money to process the deer killed during the hunt at the Griffy Lake Nature Preserve. Munnoch is a coordinator for the group.

The deer will be killed by sharpshooters from White Buffalo, a Connecticut-based nonprofit wildlife management company.

Munnoch estimates that 4,000 to 5,000 pounds of venison will result from the deer kill. All of the deer will be taken to a deer processor and then donated to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank.

The grant money comes from the Sportsman's Benevolence Fund through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
