Hartford City Woman Gets 6 Years for Stabbing Man

HARTFORD CITY, Ind. (AP) – A 28-year-old Hartford City woman has been sentenced to six years in prison for stabbing a man in the chest with a butcher knife.

Katie Elizabeth Aspy pleaded guilty to felony battery resulting in serious bodily injury. A more serious charge of felony aggravated battery was dismissed as part of a deal with prosecutors.

The (Muncie) Star Press (http://tspne.ws/1O7wiEM ) reports a 34-year-old Hartford City man told police that Aspy immediately stabbed him Jan. 5 after he arrived at a mutual friend's mobile home.

Two people were sentenced to time already served in jail for trying to help Aspy avoid arrest, while another person will be sentenced next month after pleading guilty to obstruction of justice.

Aspy will begin serving her six-year sentence after completing a 470-day sentence for violating probation in a 2010 theft case.
