East Chicago Detectives Uses Selfies to Nab Robbery Suspects

CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) – Two robbery suspects have been arrested after taking selfies on an iPhone stolen from a 13-year-old boy in East Chicago.

Eighteen-year-old Robert Davis of Gary and a 17-year-old Merrillville boy face charges of robbery and robbery resulting in bodily injury.

Court documents say the 13-year-old and his 12-year-old friend were walking in East Chicago late last month when two men started following and eventually attacked them. The documents say the men stole the older boy's cellphone, as well as the younger boy's shoes and sweater.

The (Munster) Times reports the 13-year-old's mother noticed selfies of the suspects popping up on her iCloud account about a week after the theft.

An East Chicago police detective used the selfies to identify the suspects.

It wasn't immediately known if the men have an attorney.
