Hoosier Sports Expert Says Future of Daily Fantasy Sports Looks Grim

INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): A Hoosier sports insider says we could be seeing the end of daily fantasy sports as we know it.

IBJ's Anthony Schoettle is speaking out about a New York judge's order Friday that shuts down DraftKings Inc and FanDuel. This comes as the companies are embroiled in a court battle with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman who says they amount to illegal gambling.

Despite the continuing battle, Schoettle says the ruling has set the stage for other states like Indiana to follow suit. He says “to anybody with an ounce of common sense, it's clearly gambling.” However, the two companies continue to argue that they engage in “skill based games.”

Schoettle says the companies are fighting hard to remain unregulated because it's a hugely lucrative business with millions of sports fans engaging in games across the board.
