MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) _ Muncie police say an officer was attacked by a pit bull after entering the dog owner's property to question him about a hit-and-run accident.
Det. Mike Engle tells The (Muncie) Star Press that the dog charged and attacked the officer Wednesday after the officer opened a gate and went into a fenced area around the home. The officer was bitten on his arm, calf, ankle and thigh on both legs.
The dog's owner was arrested on a preliminary charge of being a habitual traffic violator and was released from jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
Police say another officer was charged by the pit bull last year while responding to a report of a domestic dispute.
The dog is being held at the city animal shelter for 10 days so it can be monitored for rabies.
