Housing Group Plans Project for Noblesville Grain Elevator

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A nonprofit housing agency plans to convert an historic grain elevator in downtown Noblesville into affordable community housing.

The Hamilton County Area Neighborhood Development hopes to take possession of the property in about a year from the Wabash-based North Central Co-op.

The Indianapolis Star reports that the company stopped using the grain elevators it owns in downtown Noblesville last year as the demand for grain decreased in the area. It had been working to demolish the structures when the nonprofit reached out with its offer.

The nonprofit wants to build a three-story building with retail space and 54 apartments.

Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear supports the project and thinks it will be a better use of the land.
