INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO) — The Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division partnered with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) earlier this month to raise awareness about human trafficking through a statewide education and outreach initiative.

The CVSA Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative was held January 12 through January 16, 2026, and focused on equipping commercial motor vehicle drivers, motor carriers, school bus drivers, law enforcement officials, and the public with information on how to recognize and report human trafficking.

During the initiative, Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers distributed 1,007 wallet cards, decals, and informational brochures provided by TAT, formerly known as Truckers Against Trafficking. The materials were shared with drivers of the 718 commercial motor vehicles inspected during the operation. Officers also conducted seven outreach events and participated in six media interviews to expand public awareness.

Authorities say commercial motor vehicle drivers play a critical role in identifying potential trafficking situations, as they often work in locations where trafficking may occur, including truck stop parking lots, rest areas, and commercial facilities where labor trafficking victims may be exploited.

Law enforcement officials emphasized that educating members of the commercial motor vehicle industry to recognize the indicators of trafficking can significantly aid prevention and reporting efforts. More than 40 percent of human trafficking cases reported by truck drivers have involved minor victims, according to officials.

Anyone with information about suspected human trafficking is encouraged to contact the National Human Trafficking Resource Center by calling 1-888-373-7888 or by texting 233733. The hotline is toll-free and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week nationwide.
