Huntington Block Among 10 “Most Endangered” in Indiana

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WOWO): A historical block in downtown Huntington is considered among the 10 “Most Endangered Places” in Indiana.

The block that a group called Indiana Landmarks identifies as endangered includes two buildings built in 1889 by the International Order of Odd Fellows. The other building on the courthouse square was built in 1915 by the United Brethren Church.

The three buildings have sat vacant for decades, with the United Bretheren Church building most recently vacant since 1981.

Indiana Landmarks says the buildings are in jeopardy of disappearing because of poor management and lack of maintenance. If a new use for the buildings isn't found, the Huntington redevelopment commission could demolish the block.
