I-69 closed for hours by multi-vehicle fatal crash

AUBURN, Ind. (WOWO): A multi-vehicle crash north of Auburn on Interstate 69 left three people dead yesterday.

A semi speeding in a work zone, according to the Indiana State Police, collided with a group of vehicles on I-69 Northbound at the 332-mile marker between Indiana 8 and US 6 at about 3:30pm.

The semi slammed into an SUV, pushing it off the road and into a ditch, then causing a chain reaction that involved several other vehicles.

Three people were killed and at least one more was injured in the crash, which at one point had all four lanes of I-69 closed as Parkview Samaritan airlifted victims.

The northbound lanes of I-69 were closed into the overnight hours as the cleanup and investigation continued.
