FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): FBI agents and Fort Wayne police officers took a major cocaine, meth and heroin ring off the streets earlier this week.

Police arrested 17 people and seized large amounts of drugs in connection to the massive bust. Now, drug addicts may be scrambling for a new source of drugs, suffering from withdraws or seeking help.

“It removes drugs from the streets so there are people without their source of substance,” Director of Addiction Services at the Bowen Center Megan Fischer said. “But, it’s not the only thing that happens — it brings attention to the fact there are legal consequences to when you get involved in drug use.”

She said there may be people who are second guessing their addiction and are thinking it might be a bigger risk than they’re willing to take.

If drug addicts want to start seeking help, Fischer said the Bowen Center is prepared.

“One of the biggest pushes in the national heroin epidemic is to have medicine assisted therapy available for communities to help people who are suddenly hit with a withdraw situation, as in this situation,” Fischer said. “And we have a medication assisted treatment program.”
