Indiana COVID-19 hospitalizations hit new peak amid omicron

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana hospitals are reporting a record number of COVID-19 patients as the highly contagious omicron variant continues driving a statewide surge, the state’s latest coronavirus update shows.

Indiana’s COVID-19 hospitalizations reached 3,467 on Monday, eclipsing the previous pandemic peak of 3,460 the state set on Nov. 30, 2020, according to an update posted Tuesday on the state health department’s coronavirus dashboard.

COVID-19 patients occupied 38.4% of Indiana’s intensive care unit beds Monday and the state had only 10.6% of its ICU beds available overall.

Indiana also reported 11,932 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday as the omicron variant continued spreading.

Brian Tabor, president of the Indiana Hospital Association, said the surge in COVID-19 patients, combined with non-COVID-19 patients who delayed treatment earlier in the pandemic but are now seeking care, has created a “crisis” for Indiana’s hospitals.

“Indiana hospitals are overwhelmed with the highest number of patients on record and have reached a state of crisis with dwindling capacity left to care for patients,” he said Tuesday in a statement.

Will WOWO Continue to Block Comments January 12, 2022 at 11:30 am

This is a test comment since WOWO doesn’t seem to allow comments on Covid. Perhaps they are trying to protect their propaganda friend the AP….Will you let comments through? Or are you going to keep blocking them?

You can deny reality, but you can not deny the effects of denying reality. Thank you non-vaxers for stressing our healthcare system, just keep working on that next breath.

Reality?? January 13, 2022 at 2:01 pm

Jim, I like your statement “You can deny reality, but you can not deny the effects of denying reality.”…very fitting for the times, but if you make that statement, you had better live in reality.

And the reality is that the “vaccine” isn’t as all-powerful as the Government sold it to us, especially against the omicron variant. And with the CDC admitting “75% of the deaths from Covid all had at least 4 co morbidities”, there is no way it is healthy individuals that are unvaxed being admitted to the hospital and “causing the surge”. Being vaxed for covid isn’t the solution for everyone, and thinking that it is, is not living in reality.

Also, I did not see once in the story, ever mentioning “non-vaxers” being the cause. Did you “live in reality” when you wrote that statement?

This story is from AP”news”, notorious for propaganda, and unfortunately, WOWO posts this crap because they “have a contract”. They generalize everything. “Hospitals”. Why don’t you call Parkview and Lutheran and see what capacity they have….see if they really only have 10% capacity.

Thank you for adding to the division in this Country with your unwarranted blame to “non-vaxers”…you are a true Democrat!!

? There are more people vaxxed than a year ago so how is it the unvaxxed fault. Thought vaccine was supposed to protect from getting and spreading. Multiple floors closed down due to staffing shortages, so they can put false percentages out. I think it’s to make government worshipping puppets happy. Turn off the 24 news channels.

Reporting on the status of the health care system with regard to Covid has been a bodyguard of lies over the last few years. Who can trust anything an “official” says about the subject. I don’t trust a single syllable uttered by a politician or an health “professional” about Covid. Read “The Real Anthony Fauci” by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Your eyes will bleed and you will go and buy a pitchfork. If you cannot afford the book or have time to read it go to the Amazon page and read the comments. Take you blood pressure meds first though.
