BEDFORD, Ind. (AP):  Indiana orchard owners are bringing in peaches from out of state after the polar vortex that plunged the state into a deep freeze in January decimated the crop.

The apple crop also could be affected after an April cold snap killed many buds.

David Byers of Bedford's Applacres tells The Herald-Times (http://bit.ly/1tArI41 ) that some late-peach varieties survived the winter and should be available in August. But he's brought in peaches from Georgia to sell in the meantime.

The apple crop also took a hit with below-freezing temperatures in mid-April after a balmy spring that encouraged the apple tree buds to flourish.

Byers says he's hoping for a better year in 2015 if the weather cooperates.
