INDIANAPOLIS, IND. (WOWO) Indiana Governor Mike Braun is praising the Indiana State Police for their efforts to reduce drug activity and prevent impaired driving in 2025.
According to the governor’s office, Indiana State Police seized 1,389 pounds of cocaine and more than 80 pounds of opioids last year. Opioid seizures increased by 117% over 2024, contributing to a 60% decrease in statewide overdose deaths.
Fox 59 Indianapolis reports that traffic safety enforcement also increased. OWI arrests rose 17% in 2025, totaling 3,985 incidents. The increase in arrests is credited with preventing hundreds of potential crashes, the governor’s office said.
Statewide fatal crashes decreased by roughly 8%, with 737 reported incidents in 2025.
“One of our top priorities is to ensure Hoosiers have a safe place to raise their families,” Braun said. “Thanks to the incredible work of the Indiana State Police, who have gone above and beyond to remove drugs from the streets and impaired drivers from the roads, Indiana is a safer place.”
The governor’s office highlighted that the efforts by the Indiana State Police, along with local law enforcement, are key to maintaining public safety across the state.
