Indiana to receive $663K in settlement with drug-maker Wyeth

INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO):  The State of Indiana will receive more than $663,000 dollars in a settlement with drug maker Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

The company will pay more $491 million dollars in civil and criminal settlements.

The case alleged the company promoted its kidney-transplant drug Rapamune for unapproved uses. It's not illegal for doctors to prescribe drugs not covered by the FDA, it is for companies to promote it for other use.

The money received will go toward Indiana's medicaid fund.
