BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities at Indiana University are working to find out whoever has caused about 20 false fire alarms at night or in the early morning hours recently in a 500-student residence hall.
University spokesman Mark Land says the false alarms at Read Hall on the Bloomington campus are being taken extremely seriously and that the culprit could face criminal charges and school disciplinary measures.
The Herald-Times reports (http://bit.ly/20ctAkP ) that officials suspect the alarms have been caused in the past two weeks by some using a body spray to activate smoke detectors.
Besides interrupting sleep for the students, Bloomington Fire Department Sgt. Brandon Hudson says repeated alarms create the possibility that people won't evacuate in an actual emergency.
