Iowa Man Arrested in 1998 Slaying of Indiana Woman

Thirty-three-year-old Clinton Mackey of Vinton, Iowa, was formally charged Friday with one count of murder in the killing of Erika Case. A Vigo County judge set a July 14 trial date for Mackey, who's being held without bond.

The Tribune-Star reports Case's body was found on Sept. 6, 1998, in a West Terre Haute home where she had been housesitting for friends.

Chief Deputy Clark Cottom of the Vigo County Sheriff's Department says Sheriff Greg Ewing ordered the investigation into Case's killing reopened about six months ago.

Case's brother, Jury Case Jr., thanked police during a Friday news conference and said his family is “grateful that we finally have closure.”
