ISTEPs Bring ‘Mixed Bag’ for Indiana Charter Schools

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana's small group of charter schools found mixed results in the latest ISTEP scores released by the state.

The 58 charter schools that administered the test saw both modest improvements and declining performances similar to the state's various public schools. The state released ISTEP results for 2014 Monday.

GEO Foundation President Kevin Teasley said that charter school performance is a “mixed bag'' in Indiana. GEO Foundation runs the 21st Century charter school in Gary.

At least one school was hit by the technical problems which disrupted online ISTEP testing in 2013. Christel House Academy in Indianapolis saw its scores drop precipitously last year but they jumped back up again this year after the school moved to using pencils and paper for the test.
