Some Indiana Counties Not Issuing Same-Sex Licenses

LEBANON, Ind. (AP) _ Some Indiana counties still are balking at issuing same-sex marriage licenses

WISH-TV reported Wednesday that Boone, Crawford, Clay, Lawrence and Jefferson counties were not yet issuing the same-sex licenses.

Boone County Clerk Penny Bogan says she was advised by her county attorney to hold off until they receive more guidance from the state.

However, The Indiana attorney general's office advised county clerks Tuesday that they must issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples as long as all other marriage requirements were met. It sent the message soon after a federal appeals court in Chicago formally lifted Indiana's gay marriage ban.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to consider the state's appeal of a ruling throwing out the same-sex marriage ban.
