Ivy Tech Receives Grant to Repair Safety Village

Ivy Tech Community College Northeast has received a $2,250 service engagement grant for a construction program that will make repairs to Safety Village.

Safety Village is a space behind the Public Safety Academy at Ivy Tech's South Campus, where children can learn about fire safety. It's the largest public-education site of its kind in the U.S. and includes an on-site classroom, along with 30 small buildings and a “downtown” area.

The college prides itself on providing educational resources for children. However, most of the buildings in Safety Village require restoration. According to a press release, the grant is provided by the Indiana Campus Compact and will fund construction materials to re-roof, re-side and replace buildings in the village.
