LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ A community health center in Lafayette says it's getting nearly $1.2 million in private and government grants to help with renovations and expansions.

Riggs Community Health Center says it received $1 million in Affordable Care Act funding from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration. The health center service low-income residents in Tippecanoe County and surrounding counties. 

Bambi McQuade-Jones is Riggs president and CEO. She tells the (Lafayette) Journal and Courier (http://on.jconline.com/1WrfuwA) that the center will use the money to buy medical equipment. She says the funds also will pay for renovations that will make room for eight additional providers. McQuade-Jones says Riggs hopes to increase patient visits from 41,000 this year to 56,000 next year.

The center also received a nearly $200,000 grant from North Central Health Services.
