Linda Vandeveer, community advocate, dies at 67

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): One of Fort Wayne’s biggest champions has lost her fight with cancer.

67-year-old Linda Vandeveer, who helped out with establishing a memorial on Wells Street to fallen police officers and firefighters, among countless other efforts, passed away Thursday.

She and her husband were both given the Sagamore of the Wabash award by state officials last July. She was also the reason for the “Pray for Linda” billboards and signs seen in and around Fort Wayne.

The Allen County Board of Commissioners issued a statement Thursday afternoon, saying she “displayed great grace and courage during the final months,” adding that all flags at county-owned buildings will be lowered in her honor.
