Major Traffic Project for Downtown gets Approval

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Wednesday afternoon, the Board of Public Works approved the Ewing-Fairfield Conversion project.

According to the Journal Gazette, the construction project will change Ewing, Fairfield and Baker Streets from one-way streets to two-way streets.

It will also convert part of Main Street to one-lane in each direction with a center turn lane and bike lanes. The Wells Street Bridge over the St. Marys River will also get two lanes in each direction with barrier-separated bike/pedestrian lanes on each side. A five-leg roundabout at the Ewing-Fairfield-Superior-Wells intersection will also be constructed.

The project is set to go to bid May 21st, with work beginning in June. Officials are predicting that the majority of construction will be finished by the first half of November.
