ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) – A prosecutor says a 16-year-old central Indiana who weighed less than 40 pounds when rushed to a hospital has nearly doubled her weight.

Deputy Madison County Prosecutor Stephanie Wade said Monday the girl now weighs about 70 pounds, can say a few words and has been released from the hospital into foster care.

The physically and mentally disabled girl was found severely malnourished Dec. 1 inside the Anderson home she shared with her grandparents.

The Herald Bulletin reports  Madison Circuit Judge Dennis Carroll set an Aug. 16 trial date for the girl's aunt, who faces three counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, three counts of criminal confinement and one count of battery resulting in injury.

The grandparents also face neglect and other charges.
