Man Accused In Deadly Christmas Day 2024 Shooting Gets Verdict

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — A jury has returned a guilty verdict for one of two men charged in connection with a deadly Christmas Day 2024 shooting in Fort Wayne.

Jurors on Thursday found Shawn Williams, 48, guilty following a trial stemming from the death of 39-year-old Philip Rhinehart. Rhinehart was found with a gunshot wound to the chest in the 1600 block of Wells Street and later died from his injuries.

Williams was arrested the day after the shooting. He and 47-year-old Chad Kinney were both charged with murder in connection with the case. Kinney is scheduled to go to trial in February.

According to court records, both Williams and Kinney were captured on surveillance video during the shooting. Court documents identified Kinney as the shooter.

After about two and a half days of testimony and a brief deliberation, the jury returned its verdict Thursday.

Williams is scheduled to be sentenced on March 23.
