Man Rescued From Water In Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  A man was pulled to safety after a late Saturday night rescue.

From the road, a driver noticed a man struggling to say above water in the Maumee River, just east of the Coliseum bridge in Fort Wayne near the Lakeside Golf Course.  Fort Wayne Fire crews arrived around 9:10 p.m. and positioned themselves east of the bridge.  Manned boats were sent for the man from all directions.  One launched west from the Maplecrest bridge, while another rescue boat approached from the flooded golf course and another boat approached from the east of the location.  Crews on land lit the area so they could see in the darkness.

As rescue boats approached the man about 400 yards downstream, he sank into the water before being pulled up into the boat.  They delivered him to paramedics who transported him to the hospital in fair condition.
