Man Shoots Self to End Jeffersonville Police Standoff

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) – Police say a standoff in southern Indiana has ended with the suspect taking his own life.

Jeffersonville police Detective Todd Hollis says the suspect was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday afternoon after a standoff lasting several hours. The man's name hasn't been released.

Hollis tells The Courier-Journal and WDRB-TV the man's estranged wife called 911 about 8 a.m. Monday to report he had come to her house with a weapon and was making suicidal statements. He says the woman and her children fled while talking with dispatchers.

Hollis says officers evacuated nearby homes and called in the Jeffersonville police SWAT team, which tried to talk to the man. After officers heard a single gunshot, a deployed robot transmitted video showing the man was down.
