HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) _ A northwestern Indiana mayor says two officers will immediately return to street duty after the city learned the FBI has closed its investigation into a traffic stop in which a cellphone video showed police breaking a car window and using a stun gun on a man.
Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. told The Times Monday that Officers Patrick Vicari and Charles Turner have been assigned to office duties after the FBI informed the city it wanted to review the Sept. 24 incident.
Jamal Jones and Lisa Mahone, both of Hammond, are suing the city and the officers, alleging excessive force was used. The federal lawsuit is still pending.
The video showed officers smashing the passenger's side window of the car and stunning Jones before pulling him from the vehicle.
