More than 60 Roosters Seized in Cockfighting Raid

SPENCER, Ind. (AP) _ A southern Indiana man faces charges after investigators seized more than 60 roosters used in a cockfighting operation at a Spencer, Ind., property.
 
  Twenty-six-year-old Jeffrey Russell Pierce was charged Wednesday with possessing fighting animals, promoting an animal fighting contest and possessing animal fighting paraphernalia.
 
  Law enforcement, gaming officials and animal rights workers found dead roosters and birds requiring medical without access to water. 
 
  The animals were transferred to a temporary shelter for medical care.
 
  The seizure followed a two-month investigation launched by the Indiana Gaming Control Division. 
 
  Pierce was being held at the Owen County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond pending an initial hearing Thursday.
