Murder suspect’s sister sentenced for causing mistrial

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne woman who allegedly threatened a witness during her brother’s murder trial is spending ten days in jail.

Stephanie Dent pleaded guilty to indirect contempt of court Wednesday for her actions on Marth 8th, where she threatened her sister in an attempt to stop her from testifying against their brother, Franklin.

The News-Sentinel reports that her threat was overheard by potential jurors and a mistrial had to be declared as a result.

She was sentenced to ten days in jail, 18 months probation, and fined almost $1,400.

Franklin Dent is accused of killing 34-year-old Jessica Fecht in 2015 and hiding her body in a basement. He’s now set for a new trial in January.

Stephanie Dent testified that she was sorry for what happened, but didn’t know she was breaking the law.
