NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) _ A southern Indiana man who admitted killing a 35-year-old woman and burying her in his backyard has been sentenced to death for a second time.
The News and Tribune and The Courier-Journal report 56-year-old William Clyde Gibson III was sentenced to death Friday in the strangulation death of Stephanie Kirk of Charlestown. He was sentenced to death last year for the murder of 75-year-old Christine Whitis, whose body was discovered in Gibson's garage in New Albany in 2012 days before Kirk's body was found.
Gibson also was convicted early this year of murder in the death of Karen Hodella of Port Orange, Florida. Gibson was sentenced to 65 years in prison for her death.
Defense attorney Patrick Biggs had argued a second death sentence for Gibson was unnecessary.
