OKLAHOMA CITY (WOWO): An Oklahoma father is warning families about the dangers of the “Benadryl challenge” after his 15-year-old daughter was hospitalized in critical condition.

According to KFOR-TV, the teen was brought to Integris Health Baptist Medical Center after suffering seizures and has since shown no brain activity, following what doctors believe may be linked to the social media trend involving diphenhydramine, the active ingredient in Benadryl.

Medical experts say overdoses of the allergy medication can cause seizures, dangerous heart rhythms, and even cardiac arrest.

The case comes as hospitals nationwide report a rise in emergency visits tied to the viral challenge, which officials have warned can be deadly.
