One Dead in Lafayette Shooting that Prompted School Lockdowns

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Lafayette police say one person has died in a shooting that prompted at least 10 schools to go on temporary lockdowns.
 
Lafayette Police Lt. Brad Hayworth told WLFI-TV the victim died at a hospital following the shooting Tuesday morning. The victim's name and other details were not immediately available.
 
Investigators said the victim was shot while entering a home or just outside it.
 
Police said one male was detained at the scene of the shooting on the city's near north side. They say at least one person fled the scene.
 
Lafayette School Corp. Superintendent Les Huddle says at least six of the district's six schools went on temporary lockdowns. Lockdowns also were reported at six parochial schools.
