Pence Appoints Stephan Chief Utility Regulator

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Gov. Mike Pence has tapped Carol Stephan to lead the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

Pence announced Tuesday that Stephan would take over leading the commission. Stephan was appointed to the IURC earlier this year and is the first woman to chair the agency.

Stephan previously held positions with the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor, the Department of Workforce Development and other state agencies.

Stephan replaces Jim Atterholt, who stepped down to become Pence's chief of staff earlier this month.

Pence picked Carolene Mays as vice chairman of the commission. Mays previously served as a Democratic state lawmaker from 2002 to 2008.
