Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign Receives Gold Coin Donation, Again

HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): The Salvation Army's annual red kettle campaign has received a donation of a valuable coin for the sixth straight year.

An anonymous donor dropped a gold Krugerrand and two American Centennial Celebration silver coins into a kettle in Kokomo this week. The coins have appeared in kettles during the collection season for several years.

Krugerrands are made in South Africa. One of the coins donated once sold for more than $1,200. Salvation Army officials believe they are donated by a single person. A Krugerrand also was donated last year in Mishawaka.
