FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Governor Mike Pence says Indiana is standing behind the men and women who service in the military.

In a ceremony Monday at Fort Wayne's 122nd Air National Guard Fighter Wing, he signed Senate Bill 298 and House Bill 1456 into law.

The two bills aim to provide consumer protections and preferred treatment in employment. Senate Bill 298 will allow preference to veterans in hiring and promoting service members. House Bill 1456 will provide relief from contracts that would result in foreclosure or default while on active duty.

Pence praised Indiana's National Guard as the best in the country and highlighted the local unit for their recent deployment to the Middle East.

The bills were authored by former State Senator Amanda Banks of Columbia City and State Rep. Dennis Zent of Angola.
