Phone Scam Involving Allen County Sheriff’s Department Going Around

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Allen County Sheriff's Department says they're the subject of a phone scam going around.

The victim is told that a warrant has been issued for their arrest for missing Jury Duty. However, they can get out of it by going to Kroger's, purchasing a 1-2-3 Pay Card for $1,000, and then give the scammers the card information so they can electronically withdraw the funds…with a promise that the money will be returned to the victim once they appear in court.

There's a similar scam going around, possibly by the same people, where the scammer poses as a member of the IRS.

The Sheriff's department says they will never call you and ask for money over the phone. If you receive a call from what you think is a scammer, contact police.
