Police: Indianapolis Officer Shoots, Wounds Armed Suspect

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says it's investigating an incident in which an officer shot and wounded an armed suspect on the city's west side.

The department says an Indianapolis officer pulled over a vehicle shortly after 11 p.m. Monday and requested backup. It says the officer encountered an armed passenger during the traffic stop and the fired his gun, striking the suspect.

The suspect was transported to a hospital and is listed in stable condition. The officer and the driver weren't injured.

The officer will be placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting.
