Police Investigate String of Gas Station Thefts

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne police are investigating a number of thefts from vehicles being filled up at local gas stations. 


All of the victims are women who are distracted by one suspect who asks for directions while another gets into the unlocked vehicle and removes a purse or wallet. Find full details below, provided by Fort Wayne Police:

 

6736 Lima Rd, 09/28/15, 4:55 p.m.
Location: Sam’s Club gas station.
Loss: purse, cash, credit cards.
Susp1: m/b,5-10, stocky, glasses, ball cap; he removed the purse from the car.
Susp2: m/w, tall, thin; neck tattoos; he asked for directions to Highway 30 (the distractor).
Suspect vehicle: gold Ford Taurus.
 
7008 Bluffton Rd, 09/20/15, 9:00 p.m.
Location: Kroger Gas Station.
Unlocked.  Loss: wallet (on front seat); vehicle occupied by two small children.
Suspect: m/b, 5-06, bald head
Suspect vehicle: gold Ford Taurus.
The suspect had parked next to the victim’s vehicle while she was pumping gasoline and then walked up to the victim’s vehicle and removed the wallet.
 
3220 Anthony Blvd N, 09/07/15, 4:30 p.m.
Location: Wendy’s / BP Gas station lot
Unlocked.  Loss: purse + contents. (purse recovered at Delaware & Florida shortly afterwards)
Suspect: m/w/30-39; looked like a “meth addict”;  (he asked for directions).
Suspect2: m/b/47-50 (driver + person that took the purse).
Suspect vehicle: dark sedan.
 
7502 Southtown Crossing, 09/30/15, 4:20 p.m.
Location: Murphy Gas station.
Unlocked.  Loss: purse, cash, credit cards, cell phone.
Suspect: m/b with glasses (older, maybe 50)
Suspect vehicle: 4-dr vehicle.
The suspect walked up by the c/p’s vehicle and told her that he dropped something; he bent over by her car and then returned to his vehicle.  The victim finished pumping gas and then realized that her purse was missing from her front seat.
