Police say I-65 crash kills 7 in NW Indiana…

ROSELAWN, Ind. (AP) _ State police say seven people were killed when a semitrailer slammed into an SUV that was stopped for an Interstate 65 construction zone in rural northwestern Indiana.

Sgt. Tony Slocum says the SUV caught fire in the Thursday night crash and was so badly damaged that emergency crews couldn't immediately confirm how many people were inside.

The victims included four Merrillville residents and three from Atlanta, Ga. Four of the dead were children.

Slocum says the crash occurred when a semitrailer crashed into the SUV, forcing it into the back of another semitrailer that was also stopped for construction zone traffic near Roselawn, about 30 miles south of Gary.

The trucker who ran into the SUV complained of pain and was taken to a hospital.
