PAULDING, Ohio (WOWO): A stretch of highway just outside of Paulding is now named after a fallen local soldier.

A two-and-a-half-mile portion of U.S. 127 between Cecil and Paulding is now “U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith Memorial Highway.”

The Journal Gazette reports the road was renamed in honor of Smith, who died last year when a terrorist opened fire at a U.S. Navy Reserve center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was a graduate of Paulding High School and left behind a wife and three children.

A miniature version of the highway sign honoring Smith was given to members of his family.
