INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Mike Pence’s pick to replace him on the ballot says an email he sent to GOP officials was not intended to suggest that other Republicans seeking the nomination would not get help from Pence should GOP leaders go against the governor’s wishes.

Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb said Monday that Pence promised him financial support and campaign resources if the Indiana Republican state committee selects him during a closed door meeting on Tuesday.

But he added that Pence didn’t rule out lending assistance to another candidate if one is selected. U.S. Reps. Susan Brooks and Todd Rokita are among other contenders for the nod.

Holcomb’s email to the committee was obtained by The Associated Press. He told the 22-member Indiana Republican state committee “no other candidate” could boast support from the governor’s campaign committee.
