Purdue University Senior Continuing Family Tradition

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP): A Purdue University senior is carrying on a nearly 100-year tradition as the fourth generation and one of at least nine family members to work at or attend the school in West Lafayette.

John Sterrett's extensive family history at the research institution began in 1921, when his great-grandfather worked as an English teacher at Purdue. In the 1930s, both of his grandfathers studied engineering at the school, followed by his father and himself. Sterrett also has five aunts, uncles and cousins who graduated from the school.

But Sterrett says that his family didn't influence his decision to attend Purdue. He says it felt like a natural fit.

Sterrett graduates this month and will work at an electric company that once employed his grandfathers and father.
